Existing Product Analysis - Grand Theft Auto V
This is the video game cover for Grand Theft Auto V. This game cover is designed by Rockstar Games, the company who also produced the game. Grand Theft Auto's target audience is male 16-24 year olds. The purpose of a game cover is to attract a consumer and convince them to buy it, this cover would convince the audience to buy the game as it shows things that male 16-24 year olds would be interested in. The layout of the cover makes the white text in the foreground stand out. This will attract an audience because the main selling point of this game is that it is the next instalment of a very famous video game series. All of the pictures on the cover imply violence and masculine dominance. The cover also shows the narrative of the game which is a game that is played with multiple characters. The demographic audience for the game would be males aged between 16-24. The psychographic audience would be people who are interested in video games.
Liam, this really needs more detail to it, it's supposed to be more like an essay analysis than a short answer. See below.
ReplyDeleteWWW-Good understanding of the target audience and effective use of terminology in explaining this.
EBI- Your analysis of the layout needs more detail so consider the following prompts
-Are you sure that this is a cover rather than just a poster? Covers have the logo of the platform (X-box, Playstation etc), an ages rating and a PEGI rating. Also, covers have reverse sides too which you will also need to analyse focusing on the codes and conventions.
-How does the "cover" use colour and image to communicate it messages? Why is it cartoon style and what is your interpretation of this seeing that cartoons are normally associated with children's products, and this is anything but a child's product.
-How are people and places represented on this product? What stereotypes are reinforced and challenged?
-What does the choice of image tell you about the content of the game?
-What is the genre of the game and how is this reflected n the images?
-How have the producers made the cover look attractive to an audience and tries to make them want to buy it?
-What are the connotations of the images, the colour etc?
-How does the cover follow an established set of conventions for this genre, and for this series of games as set up by the previous versions?
-And as I said before, it's important to familiarise yourself with the back of the product too since a game cover includes both the back and the front media.
Show me Liam by going back to the beginning and going into the required detail in your next analysis.
